VICTORIAN TERRACE

A typical Victorian terrace house bought by our clients was in need of a complete overhaul in order to transform it into a contemporary home for a couple who were downsizing in the capital.

Whilst the clients were in the process of obtaining planning permission for a side extension, they engaged us to help transform the interior. Certain original features like the tiles in the hallway provided the inspiration for the black & white concrete floor tiles in the first-floor shower room. A new double entrance from the hallway to the living room, using Crittall steel and glass doors, floods the hallway with light and creates the sense of space in an otherwise narrow corridor. Crittall steel was also used to create the patio doors. The original kitchen had a step down into the dining space, with a further step down to the garden level. This arrangement did not allow for a natural flow and movement through the ground floor, and it made the garden appear much smaller than it was. The new layout we designed aimed to correct this by excavating the whole kitchen/dining room floor to be at the garden level, and moving the step down to the hallway.

Our house renovation was in stages but Chrysoula’s clear vision and strong push in the right direction resulted in a harmonious home that we are thrilled with.
